New Fundraising Announcement for Local Service Clubs

December 15, 2021

December 7, 2021

To all municipal offices within Algoma-Manitoulin:

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to share with you a recent news release from the Ministry of the Attorney General announcing changes in fundraising regulations for Royal Canadian Legions and other service clubs in Ontario.

The province is now be offering a new social gaming license free of charge to Royal Canadian Legions and other local community service clubs.  The new license will permit the holders to host small-stakes games such as bridge, euchre and bingo. In addition, legions and charities will also be allowed to fundraise through approved progressive jackpot (loonie and toonie) raffle lotteries. Soon, these progressive jackpot raffles will be licensed by local municipalities or First Nations with an Order in Council.

Legions and other community groups can apply for the social gaming licence through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s online portal as of December 1.

As always, I want to thank each and every Legion Branch and community service club in Algoma for the incredible service and leadership within our communities and throughout the province of Ontario. Your work plays a pivotal role in serving the people of this region and making it a better place to live.

Please feel free to forward this information to any service clubs in your community.

Kindest regards,

Michael Mantha, MPP/ député
