Emergencies are defined as situations or impending situations caused by forces of nature, accident or an intentional act that constitutes a danger of major proportions to life and property. Emergencies affect public safety, meaning the health, welfare and property, as well as the environment and economic health of the Township of Plummer Additional.
The population of the Township of Plummer Additional is 625 residents.
In order to protect residents, businesses and visitors, the Township of Plummer Additional requires a coordinated emergency response by a number of agencies under the direction of the Community Control Group. These are distinct arrangement and procedures from the normal, day-to-day operations carried out by emergency services.
The Township of Plummer Additional Emergency Management Committee developed this emergency response plan. Every official, municipal department and agency must be prepared to carry out assigned responsibilities in an emergency. The response plan has been prepared to provide key officials, agencies and departments of the Township of Plummer Additional with important emergency response information related to:
- Arrangements, services and equipment; and
- Roles and responsibilities during an emergency.
In addition, it is important that residents, businesses and interested visitors be aware of its provisions. Be Prepared
Emergencies can happen at anytime and occur anywhere, sometimes without warning. An emergency can force you to evacuate your neighbourhood or confine you to your home or workplace. It can leave you without basic services such as water, gas, electricity, or working phone. Are you prepared?
Although Ontario has effective management legislation and programs, individuals and families play a vital role in preparing for times of crisis when emergency services and other government resources may be strained. It is important that individuals and families prepare to take care of themselves for at least three days.
Individuals and families are best able to cope when they have taken the time to prepare before an emergency happens.
Emergency Survival Kit
In the event of an emergency, everyone should be prepared to take care of themselves and their families for up to three days. Make sure that your emergency survival kit has:
- Flashlight and batteries
- Radio and batteries or crank radio
- Spare batteries
- First aid-kit
- Candles and matches/lighter
- Extra car keys and cash
- Important papers (identification)
- Food and bottled water
- Clothing and footwear
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Toilet paper and other personal items
- Medication
- Whistle (to attract attention, if needed)
- Playing cards, games
FLOODING
Ontario is taking action to protect people and property by strengthening the province’s preparedness for flooding because the safety of the public and the protection of our communities is our number one priority.
In response to Ontario’s Special Advisor on Flooding report released last November, and the call from the communities around the province to address the issue of flooding, Ontario has released Protecting People and Property: Ontario’s Flooding Strategy, available here. The Strategy introduces a series of new and enhanced actions that will help Ontario better prepare for, respond to, and recover from significant flood events.
